Crop production of Gambella Region of Ethiopia during the 2025/26 production season has increased by 1.6 million quintals compared to the same period last year. This is indicated by the President of the Gambella Region, Alemitu Omod, who stated that the region has produced a total of 6.2 million quintals of produce were collected by developing over 186,000 hectares of land. Gambella’s economy is primarily based on subsistence agriculture (maize, sorghum), livestock and fishing mainly in the Baro River. Key outputs include coffee (top exporter), cereals (maize, sorghum, teff), oilseeds, pulses, and flowers. Reports also show that Ethiopia is also Africa’s second-largest maize producer and a leading wheat producer.
