Thousands of homes were without power yesterday evening after the west coast was battered by winds of up to 155km/h. Storm Eleanor moved in from the Atlantic with southwesterly winds and flooded the streets of Galway city, with water 30cm deep in some places. The county got a brief reprieve yesterday afternoon but Met Éireann said that up to 10mm of rain was expected between last night and today.
