Galajda Named Finalist for NCAA Best Goaltender Award

After leading the country with nine shutouts and backstopping the nation’s best defense, freshman goaltender Matt Galajda is one of five finalists for the Mike Richter Award, presented to college hockey’s most outstanding goaltender. The rookie netminder was already named ECAC Goalie and Rookie of the Year, and is one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award. Galajda leads the nation with a 1.49 goals against average, and is third-best in save percentage at .940. During the season, he posted three straight shutouts en route to a 227 minute and 11 second shutout streak, the second-longest in Cornell history and 13th-longest in NCAA history. The other four finalists for the Richter Award are Denver’s Tanner Jaillet, Notre Dame’s Cale Morris, Colgate’s Colton Point and Northeastern’s Cayden Primeau.
