"It recommended that Central Government may move legislative amendments to increase max ceiling of cess on motor vehicles to 25 per cent from present 15 per cent," the ministry announced on its official Twitter handle. The GST Council is due to meet next on September 9 in Hyderabad and is expected to come up with a timeline then.As a result of the government rejigging the cess ceiling, sports utility vehicles (SUVs) and luxury cars are likely to cost more. We believe this will be a strong deterrent to the growth of luxury cars in this country," Mercedes-Benz India MD (managing director) and CEO (chief executive officer) Roland Folger said.
