Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Kwakye Ofosu said the levy has played a significant role in addressing longstanding challenges in the power sector. “What is clear is that it has certainly been put to good use and has contributed significantly to achieving stability in the power sector. When we took over, there were challenges with electricity stability, and I think all of us can attest that, for several months now, electricity has been stable. The Energy Sector Shortfall and Debt Repayment Levy was introduced to raise additional funds to purchase fuel for thermal power plants and to settle accumulated debts within the energy sector.
