GECF members' enchanced coordination needed: Libya PM


QNADoha: Prime Minister of the National Unity Government of Libya H E Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh has stressed the necessity to raise the level of coordination and cooperation among the members of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in a way that reduces the challenges and contributes to the optimal exploitation of this rich resource to promote sustainable development. He expressed his hope that this summit would be an important step in the direction of cooperating and coordinating efforts, to develop the natural gas sector through a safe and sustainable way to produce energy, and contribute to the development of all sectors. He pointed out that this summit is being held amidst many challenges that the world is facing, foremost of which is the COVID-19 pandemic since early 2020, in addition to the issue of climate change, adding that these challenges and the policies related to them have an impact on the future of the oil and gas industry, as well as the development preparations in various countries. In the context of his speech, Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh pointed out the challenges faced by Libya during the past decade, and the efforts that are being made to promote peace and stability, develop oil and gas fields, and maximize their role in comprehensive and sustainable development. The National Unity Government of Libya has succeeded in overcoming many obstacles — reflecting positively on the level of production, he said, adding that more effort must be made to create real partnerships to develop the oil and gas sector and use the proceeds to move towards sustainable development.
