Africa accounts for 46% of the GCF’s new $960.3 million climate action package. The Green Climate Fund (GCF) has approved $960.3 million in climate finance to support 18 new projects in developing countries as they move to advance renewable energy deployment and energy access. This follows 65,000 new connections across Africa facilitated by $27 million disbursed since 2020 under SEforALL’s Universal Energy Access initiative. These new branches are part of a broader reform agenda to improve efficiency, strengthen impact, and respond faster to African climate priorities,” added Koffman. As African energy projects continue to seek new streams of capital, climate finance is expected to continue playing a central role in advancing development and addressing Africa’s energy access challenge.
