The future of a Christchurch boat hire company remains in doubt as the owner faces up to a six-week wait for a licence to be approved. Phill​ Hanrahan purchased The Groynes Boat Hire business in July and, although the previous owners did not have a licence to operate, the Christchurch City Council prohibited Hanrahan from operating the business without one. JOHN KIRK-ANDERSON/STUFF The Groynes boat hire shed is usually a hive activity at this time of year, but failure to obtain a licence means it has remain closed. SUPPLIED Christchurch man Phill Hanrahan is upset and frustrated at a long battle with the city council to gain a licence to operate his boat hire business at The Groynes.
