Furniture retailers under fire for exclusions in extended warranty plans

Companies providing furniture protection plans are reviewing their policies after a Consumer NZ investigation found plans were misleading and pointless. But the consumer watchdog’s mystery shoppers at Big Save Furniture, Early Settler, Freedom Furniture, Harvey Norman and Target Furniture found the protection plans mostly excluded normal wear and tear. These exclusions were also applied to Big Save Furniture’s Upcare plan, Early Settler’s Guardsman Fabric Care Collection plan and Freedom Furniture’s Care Cover plan. All companies providing furniture protection plans and furniture companies have been approached for comment. Consumer NZ said Freedom Furniture and Early Settler were also reviewing their plans this year.
