The government aspires to equip every household in the state with tap water connection and toilet by 2019.“I have doubts if such a meagre amount would be of any help to develop a smart city,” the CM added.Under tap water scheme, the government plans to provide connection to 15,71,643 households in urban areas. The scheme will also cover houses in 3,378 panchayats and ensure supply of at least 135 litres of water per head per day.Under the toilet scheme, apart from constructing toilet in every household, the government will also construct community toilet. This is the reason why we have made both tap water and toilet schemes universal in nature, irrespective of economic, caste or any other consideration. I don’t think any other state has such ambitious plan.”The CM also asked officers to ensure that hand pumps do not get defunct after implementation of tap water scheme. “Not only hand pumps, all the unused wells should also be renovated and maintained for any emergency,” he added.
