Fundraising campaign for 59 Tamaraw protectors launched – The Manila Times


A fundraising campaign to assist park rangers and wardens of the endangered tamaraw, who have been affected by the Mount Iglit-Baco National Park in Occidental Mindoro. Rep. Josephine Sato told The Manila Times that the United Nations Development Program, Biodiversity Financing Initiative, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources Biodiversity Management Bureau launched a fundraising campaign for the salaries, allowance and food supply of 24 rangers and 35 wardens, who serve as the frontliners in ensuring the protection and conservation of the country’s remaining 480 tamaraw, also known as the Mindoro dwarf buffalo. She said the rangers and wardens are young Mangyans. During the global launch via Zoom of the Together for Tamaraws, Mayor Romulo Festin of San Jose donated P250,000 while Vice Governor Pater Alfaro donated P50,000 on behalf of the provincial council. Donations have reached P365,300 since it was launched on July 15.
