Promoting the positive. The Ontario government is pledging $1 million in funding as part of its Black Youth Action Plan to three organizations to create public awareness campaigns — in part using social media and running live, “pop-up” events. And while addressing anti-violence in innovative ways is a component of the campaigns, “I want to stay connected to the positive pieces behind this,” added Coteau. “We need to focus on more of the positive pieces in our communities. We need to reinforce the positive that’s taking place in our communities.”
