Funding proves massive stumbling block for creative ballet collective


Ballet Collective Aotearoa artistic director and Wellington-based dancer Turid Revfeim on the sustainability issues facing professional dance. Not an actual ballet company, but a collective of dancers eager to collaborate with other Kiwi artists. Seeing dancers looking for work, graduates without work and choreographers looking for a platform to experiment, I applied for a Creative New Zealand grant. I was constantly nagged by the fact that the maximum amount allocated for any Creative New Zealand grant meant only four weeks work for all involved. My first major stumbling block was all that arts grant applications for the first round of 2020 were pulled.
