He explained that many sectors of society, such as those involved in preventing suicide, the entertainment sector and others were still awaiting State funding in many cases, while a big industry such as horse racing gets State support. Cllr Michael Clarke said that Cllr O'Boyle made some valid points, but he said that many people love horse racing or greyhound racing and in the vast majority of cases, those involved are doing so for the right reasons. Cllr Arthur Gibbons told members that Cllr O'Boyle had highlighted the 'discrepancy' and said it was 'an insult' to think other areas, such as disabilities, gets less funding than horse racing and greyhound racing.
