Full text of James Comey's opening statement to the Senate intelligence committee


Early Wednesday afternoon, the Senate intelligence committee released the prepared written statement former FBI director James Comey submitted ahead of Thursday's hearing examining Russia's involvement in the 2016 presidential election. Comey submitted his opening statement to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence on Wednesday, a day before he was set to testify before the committee. I can recall nine one-on-one conversations with President Trump in four months — three in person and six on the phone. I replied that I had passed his request to the acting deputy attorney general, but I had not heard back. He said that perhaps he would have his people reach out to the acting deputy attorney general.
