As you are aware, significant progress has been made in Sri Lanka since the last UPR in 2012. As the President of Sri Lanka recently stressed, security forces will not be unfairly targeted or punished. Sri Lanka has intensified its engagement and cooperation with UN Special Procedures as well as Treaty Bodies. The independence of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka was strengthened following the enactment of the 19th Amendment. Our efforts to protect and promote human rights are often attacked by opponents as inviting foreign interference.
