Fuel thefts prompt police warning

A recent spate of diesel thefts in rural Southland serves as a reminder to keep fuel tanks and vehicles secure. Commercial vehicles on worksites, as well as those in isolated areas such as paddocks, were targeted. Southland police reported three fuel thefts this week, two from roadworks sites in Waimatuku and Winton and one from a rural property in Hokonui. They should also avoid leaving machinery in remote areas, where it could become a target for theft. Police urged anyone with information related to the thefts, as well as anyone who had been offered unusually cheap fuel, to contact Southland police on 105.
