Kiwibank has confirmed it will have a standalone branch at 21 Strathallan Street in Timaru from August 2020. The bank has already closed its Northtown branch and is planning to end its Highfield services in August 2020. A 79-year-old Timaru man battling ill health is not happy at being forced to travel an extra 2.5 kilometres by bus to his bank after the Kiwibank branch at the Northtown Mall was closed. A Kiwibank spokesperson said the bank also planned to close its services at Highfield in August 2020. "Kiwibank is making a significant investment in a standalone branch at 21 Strathallan Street in Timaru in 2020.
