Front Row Seat: I know you hate the paywall, but it's how my job exists


After a sampler of free articles, readers would be asked to subscribe if they wanted to keep reading the newspaper online. Today, as Adam Nagourney reports in his recent book, "The Times," online subscribers provide the core basis of the newspaper's revenue. Here in Minnesota, online readers are required to subscribe for unrestricted online access to papers including the Star Tribune, the Pioneer Press, and, yes, the Duluth News Tribune. About once a week, I receive a comment from a reader who decries the existence of the News Tribune's paywall.
