KUANTAN: His passion and creativity for beads embroidery saw Abdul Majid Abdul Rahman achieving the rare feat of stringing over 500,000 colourful beads together to create a 17.8m handmade beaded art that was recently recognised by the World Record Academy as the longest beaded art in the world. His latest accomplishment is a dream come true for the father-of-eight from Kampung Baru Cherating, who was first recognised by The Malaysia Book of Records in 2005 after he strung together the longest beaded art measuring some 16m long. Abdul Majid had then set a target to improve the record but he fell ill and only picked up on the plan in 2010 after his recovery. In December last year, the 57-year-old completed the 17.8m long, colourful beaded art that featured various motifs, including among others the Jalur Gemilang, the Petronas Twin Towers and the names of all the states in the country. On Friday, the US-based World Record Academy recognised Abdul Majid's effort and listed his accomplishment on their website, and he became the first Malaysian to set a benchmark for the longest beaded art.
