The drive took at least 13 hours each way, and I watched Kansas turn into Missouri, then Illinois, then Kentucky, then Tennessee, then Alabama. You saw signs for rock-ribbed Republicans in much of Missouri, then billboards promoting U.S. Rep. Cori Bush in St. Louis. Third party dreamsAfter arriving in Alabama, we settled into a converted garage at my in-laws’ home. Why should folks in Alabama be represented by the same party as folks in Kansas? Certainly Democrats in Kansas and Alabama are different than Democrats in New York and California.
