The Star/Investigative Journalism Bureau filed dozens of freedom of information requests to better understand and measure mental health on the campuses of Canada’s colleges of universities. The Star and IJB journalists conducted comprehensive interviews with more than 150 young people who self-identified as facing mental health challenges. Their responses shed light on stressors youth face, the treatments they receive and their experiences when seeking counselling. Trend-tracking firm RIWI Corp. conducted a survey on behalf of journalists from the Toronto Star and the Investigative Journalism Bureau. AB Andrew Bailey is a freelance data analyst for the StarA yearlong investigation from the Star and the Investigative Journalism Bureau has found one in five young Canadians is struggling with mental health.
