It wasn't until Friday that Walker's family finally received the medals celebrating his service. Claude Walker earned the Soldiers Medal in 1944 after saving the life of a fellow soldier who was drowning in Italy. In 1945, Walker earned the Bronze Star and Purple Heart after he was shot and wounded during the "Blood and Fire" Division’s push into Germany. Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney presented the awards to Walker's family, according to a press release from his office.
