The first category includes those who march against “neo-liberal state capitalism” disguised as socialism. The second are those who believe that the US embargo and hardline approach of the hegemon towards Cuba is the crux of the humanitarian plight. Cuba tried to keep the devil at bay through an authoritarian regime—using fear and intimidation to uproot his ministrations. Given a choice between capitalism and state capitalism, hanging to the threads of a once revolutionary communist Cuba, the leaders chose the latter. Concrete social and economic change was witnessed in Cuba only after Fidel Castro stepped down.
