From Bakersfield to the big leagues is a well-travelled path for professional athletes in Edmonton. Just not one that’s typically used by the Edmonton Eskimos. The southern California city of 380,000, located a two-hour drive north of Los Angeles, is known around these parts as the home of the American Hockey League’s Bakersfield Condors, who are an affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Edmonton Oilers. But things came full circle last year, when Kilgore returned to Bakersfield in 2018, this time as the Renegades’ quarterbacks coach. I’m thankful to be here, for sure.”The irony isn’t lost on Kilgore that the winding path that took him from Bakersfield to the big leagues in Edmonton is one well-travelled in the hockey realm.
