Fresh wave of flood in Assam: 3.5 lakh people affected


GUWAHATI: Over 3.5 lakh people have been reported hit of which over 13,000 displaced people have taken shelter in temporary camps as the fresh wave of flood that started picking up since last few days turned devastating on Friday across 15 districts. About 63,000 people were reported affected in eight districts on Thursday.The India Meteorological Department forecast for the next four days indicate that heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy fall are very likely to occur in Arunachal Pradesh , Assam and Meghalaya Ministry of water resources has issued advisory saying that due to this rainfall, rivers like Brahmaputra and its tributaries in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya are likely to rise and create low to high flood with unprecedented flood in few locations.The ministry stated that Brahmaputra river is likely to flow in moderate to high to unprecedented flood situation in Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Golaghat, Nagaon, Morigaon, Kamrup, Goalpara and Dhubri districts from August 10 to 20. "River Siang in Upper and East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh and Dhemaji district of Assam, River Lohit in Namsai, Lohit and Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh and Tinsukia district of Assam is likely to flow in moderate to high flood situation with unprecedented in few locations during the period from 10th to 13thAugust, 2017," the advisory stated.Similarly Subansiri river in Upper and lower Subansiri districts and Kameng river of Arunachal Pradesh and in Assam Ranganadi river in Lakhimpur, Jia-Bharali river in Sonitpur, Dikhow and Desang rivers in Sibsagar district are likely to flow in moderate to high flood till August 13.
