Three French tourists never expected to be scammed in New Zealand, but nearly lost thousands when a man pretended to be a fishery officer. Laure Guillou, her sister and her sister's boyfriend went snorkelling near Kaikōura on holiday in November and caught three fish. Kaikōura man Daniel James pretended to be a Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) official and demanded they pay him money for the fish, which he said were undersized.
