French rugby believe the game should be “an inclusive, sharing sport, without distinction of sex, gender, origin or religion”. The French Rugby Federation (FFR) is going against World Rugby guidelines and will allow transgender women to play women’s rugby next season. World Rugby said last year that after considerable research, it concluded “that safety and fairness cannot presently be assured for women competing against trans women in contact rugby”. France have seized on that, voting unanimously to allow transgender women to get involved in rugby. That means transgender women still transitioning can also be allowed to play women’s rugby.
