In a statement, the French Embassy also reiterated President Emmanuel Macron’s pledge to reconstruct the 850-year old UNESCO world heritage landmark. “The Embassy of France in Manila would like to thank our friends in the Philippines for their heartfelt messages following the massive fire that engulfed parts of the Notre Dame de Paris,” the French Embassy said. Known as the seat of the Archbishop of Paris, Notre Dame (meaning Our Lady) started its construction in 1163 and was completed in 1645.
