KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 1): The Small and Mid-Cap Public Listed Companies (PLC) Research Scheme, which was announced in Budget 2017, will provide free research coverage for 300 small and mid-cap companies, said Second Finance Minister Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani. “We will give these 300 companies free coverage of research. Johari added that the independent research coverage of small and mid-cap PLCs is needed to promote the Malaysian capital market, which stood at RM2.85 trillion as at September 2016. A Capital Market Research Institute will also be established, with an initial funding of RM75 million provided through the Capital Market Development Fund, which is administered by Bursa Malaysia. Besides that, government-linked investment companies (GLICs) will allocate a special fund of up to RM3 billion to fund managers licensed by the Securities Commission Malaysia to invest in potential small- and mid-cap companies.
