Free Breakfast Programme: Conduct periodic monitoring to avoid wastage

KUALA LUMPUR: An economist has proposed that the Education Ministry conduct constant monitoring and review of the menu offered to 2.7 million primary school pupils as part of the Free Breakfast Programme. Such a move, he said, not only helps to reduce food wastage but also improves the services of the hotel operators. “I understand that the programme was introduced as a result of a study conducted involving samples of children coming from poor families. “To ensure the effectiveness of the programme, the ministry should avoid adopting generalisation on the outcome of the study. “There are cases of pupils rushing and leaving their house for schools as early as 6am.
