Fraudster jailed for scamming businesses out of $33,718

Jason David Simpson was jailed for two years and eight months when he appeared in the New Plymouth District Court on fraud charges. (file photo)A judge showed a recidivist fraudster no leniency when jailing him for scamming two businesses out of more than $30,000. The summary of facts stated Simpson had been disqualified from being a director of a company due to his previous dishonesty convictions. Judge Greig said he would apply the rules strictly when calculating a discount for Simpon’s guilty pleas as he was not entitled to get the full credit. Judge Greig acknowledged Simpson’s offer to pay reparation but was sceptical whether he would follow through.
