The US Department of Justice (DOJ) released over 2,000 videos and 180,000 images of persons who were in contact with the deceased offender after public demand. The release does not automatically indict those spotted with Epstein, as investigations are ongoing to determine whether they are guilty or not. Following the release of the files, rumors spread within the sporting fraternity that Ribéry was among those mentioned and could face justice in the US. Jeffrey Epstein died on August 10, 2019, at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City while awaiting trial on federal charges of sex trafficking.
