Police launched a manhunt after the gunman opened fire at shortly after midnight in Puy-de-Dôme, central France, with officers finding the suspected shooter dead at shortly before 9am (local time). Two officers were shot as they tried to approach the house where a woman had fled to the roof for safety. "The woman managed to escape, but then there was more shooting, in which another gendarme died, and a fourth was wounded." The source added that the suspected shooter was later found dead and is believed to have shot himself. Two further officers were shot dead.
