Under the city charter, a mayoral preliminary election will be held if more than two candidates complete nomination paperwork. The preliminary election is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 14. A preliminary election for district council seats will occur because three or more candidates qualify to appear on the ballot. There will also be several other two-way races — which do not require a preliminary election — for council seats. Incumbent District 1 member Beverly Hugo, District 2 member Richard Finlay, District 4 member and current Chairman Adam Freudberg, District 5 member Priscila Sousa, District 7 member Tiffanie Maskell, District 8 member Jessica Barnhill and District 9 member William LaBarge are each seeking re-election.
