Four nabbed for luxury watch fraud

The police have arrested four men for allegedly attempting to defraud online sellers of HK$1.1 million worth of three luxury watches. The youngest member of the gang, a 15-year-old student, was assigned to pick up the watches from the sellers, Wu added. She explained that the suspect posed as buyers and contacted individuals and retailers selling luxury watches on messaging apps, saying they wanted to buy the watch and will pay by bank transfers. “In fact, the suspects deposit [blank] checks into the bank accounts of the sellers instead of making instant bank transfers. Later, they emailed fake bank transfer slips to those sellers, deceiving them that they had made proper payments,” she said.
