The incident unfolded on Arthur St in Whitianga. A woman was allegedly held hostage by her boyfriend overnight while he threatened to stab her and set the house on fire. Police were called to the incident at Whitianga about 1am, police said in a statement. The stand-off on Arthur St lasted almost four hours. A 36-year-old Whitianga man was arrested at the scene and is due to appear in Hamilton District Court on Wednesday, facing a raft of charges, including threatening to kill and male assaults female.
