The landslide occurred in the village of Kerauja in the Gorkha district of Nepal’s mountainous Manaslu region early on Thursday, killing one Spanish and three Nepalese hikers, police superintendent Janak Raj Pandey said.Monsoon rains, which have pounded the Himalayan region since Wednesday, triggered the landslides, according to Pandey. "A team of policemen deployed to the site found them dead. Six injured trekkers have been airlifted to Kathmandu," Pandey told dpa.Four members of a family died on Monday when a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall crushed their home in a remote area of mid-western Nepal.Nepal’s monsoon season, which lasts from July to September, causes disastrous landslides and flooding, killing about 300 people every year.Nine people including climbers from France, Spain, Italy and Germany were killed in an avalanche in September 2012 on Makalu, the world’s eighth-highest mountain, in one of the worst Himalayan disasters.- AFP
