KOTA KINABALU: A Malaysian citizen and three others were arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle controlled goods from waters off Kudat early Wednesday. The four were caught with 10 units of gas cylinders, 51kg of cooking oil, 36kg of sugar and 80kg of wheat flour in a vessel at about 3.50am. Kudat Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director Boon Chin Chau said a team of officers on patrol approached the vessel after they noticed it leaving the Kudat marina. He added that the goods were believed to be intended for buyers at Sibogo Island, which is approximately 60km away. "We will be increasing sea patrols to prevent crime and ensure the safety of the people here," said Boon.
