A key breakthrough occurred in 2016 when Pfizer, a WEGO Health customer, teamed up with 23andMe. The Pfizer study was nearly 10 times larger than previous studies Douglas Levinson, a psychiatrist and genetics researcher at Stanford University, told the MIT Technology Review. “The big story,” Levinson said, “is that 23andMe got us over the inflection point for depression.” Researchers were able to identify 15 genetic mutations linked to depression. Previous studies had detected, at best, two and most detected none.
