Legacy data protection solutions are not doing enough to protect organizations from data breaches. Additionally, legacy data protection solutions have followed the discover, classify and protection mindset, in which organizations protect only a subset of data. Since access-control permissions automatically follow content, data-centric data protection works at massive scale, including data created by centralized applications such as HR and finance. As the global average cost of a data breach is more than $3.86 million, up 6.4% from the previous year, organizations need to change their existing data protection solutions that are not meeting their rapidly evolving data protection needs. Consumers are putting more emphasis on data protection and data privacy, which is leading to more and more regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).
