In 2015, he uploaded a number of repetitive sound files to YouTube, including one ten-hour video of white noise that he'd generated himself using Audacity open-source software and its in-built noise generator. Yesterday, though, he was rather taken aback to find that the piece has attracted five copyright complaints from four different organizations. One complainant sells white noise recordings for the purposes of sleep therapy; one appears to run 'silent discos', and another is a record company. And, in each case, they have opted not to have the video taken down but have instead chosen to try and claim any profits from it for themselves. "A month later, the video was uploaded to one of our work channels, and then YouTube generated a copyright claim against me for my own music from the work channel."
