"Regardless of what technology you use, the principle of energy storage is the same," said Sarah Petrevan, policy director with Clean Energy Canada, a research group at Simon Fraser University that has no association with the TC Energy project. The TC Energy project has faced a backlash from some residents near the pumped storage site, forcing the company to modify its plans. "A plan to build a pumped water storage facility near Meaford needs our attention and opposition as it will impact local ecology and fisheries!" It's more of a giant energy authority charged with keeping the lights on so as to keep the economy humming. Power planners and their political masters will have to weigh the TC Energy project not only on its own merits, but against the alternatives.
