© Heidi Atter/CBC Epic Games has agreed to pay the largest single fine ever levied by the FTC for privacy violations in its game Fortnite. Epic Games, the maker of the wildly popular video game Fortnite, has agreed to pay $520 million US in fines and rebates for tricking millions of players into making unintentional purchases in the game. The game, with 400 million players worldwide, is free to download and play but sells things like character costumes and dance moves for money. "We accepted this agreement because we want Epic to be at the forefront of consumer protection and provide the best experience for our players," Epic said. Privacy violations, tooIn addition to the fine for the content downloads, the FTC says Epic Games also violated COPPA by disregarding privacy concerns.
