Former state Sen. Ron Calderon to plead guilty in corruption case

His brother pleaded guilty last week to money laundering charges for trying to hide bribes that went to Ron Calderon. In return, Calderon demanded the men send a $25,000 check to an organization run by his brother, former state Assemblyman Tom Calderon. Former state Sen. Ronald S. Calderon agreed Monday to plead guilty to mail fraud, conceding that he had accepted bribes from a medical company owner and an undercover FBI agent posing as a film executive. He admitted in the plea bargain that he and his brother hid bribe money through laundering to his company. At that hearing, Tom Calderon pleaded guilty to money laundering as part of an agreement in which federal prosecutors offered to seek a prison sentence of no more than 12 months.
