UNITED NATIONS (AP) " Four former soccer stars are set to play a series of short games with U.N. diplomats as part of an effort to highlight the role of sport in promoting peace and development. Zambia's Kalusha Bwalya, Nigeria's Nwanko Kanu and Frank Rijkaard and Aron Winter of the Netherlands will each head a team of diplomats who will play outside the U.N. building. Nwanko Kanu said, "Sport is very, very important when you talk of unity," pointing out that the one thing that unites Nigeria's many tribes is football. The effort is sponsored by the permanent missions of the Netherlands and Zambia. "I think that it's important that there is peace and development and if we're able to contribute in a small way, that's why we're here," Bwalya said before the game.
