Former researcher taking baking to the streets

Former researcher taking baking to the streetsWARWICK SMITH/STUFF Janah Carthew gave up agricultural research to open a mobile kitchen in Feilding. Sweet treats, creamy milkshakes and the chatter of customers are a far cry from Janah Carthew's work in agricultural research, but she wouldn't have it any other way. Carthew, 32, gave up her career in agricultural research to open Cherry Lane, her "kitchen table on wheels", a small, horse float-shaped coffee and dessert cart in Feilding. Baking has always been a passion of Carthew's and wanted to do something with it, but didn't know what. The name Cherry Lane bridges the rural-urban divide and customers often get a talk on where their coffee came from, she said.
