"Narayan Chandra Chanda, the former MP from Khulna-5, has been detained while trying to escape to India at the Maheshpur border illegally," the BGB headquarters said in a statement on Sunday night. Narayan was elected a member of parliament for Khulna-5 (Dumuria-Fultola) constituency and appointed a cabinet minister in the January national elections. The 79-year-old politician had previously served as a state minister and began his career as a school teacher. He has also served as the chairman of the Union Council.
