Former British Prime Minister David Cameron announced Monday that he is stepping down as a member of Parliament, just months after leaving 10 Downing Street. Cameron, a member of the Conservative Party, stepped down as prime minister in July after the United Kingdom voted in a June referendum to leave the European Union, saying the country needed new leadership. He told The Daily Telegraph that he informed current Prime Minister Theresa May of his decision Monday afternoon. Cameron had served as leader of the Conservative Party since 2005, and as prime minister since 2010. He has held the parliamentary seat in Witney since 2001, which is considered a safe seat for the Conservative Party.
