Former U-Va. leader defends controversial fund: ‘We cannot be satisfied with the status quo.’

George Keith Martin, U-Va. rector emeritus, argues that the fund is a bold step in keeping with the university’s ambitious goals. The projects that align with the university’s strategic plan adopted in 2013 and the Medical Center strategic plan adopted in 2012 will receive priority. To be clear, no awards from the fund have been made and the process is at its beginning stage. Fundamentally, a world-class university committed to excellence is good for the Commonwealth of Virginia and its citizens. As a former rector, I appreciate the challenges facing higher education, and the University of Virginia in particular.
